Several resources are available for child care and youth programs. There are two Child Development Centers (CDC) at Cannon. The Cannon CDC is located on base just a block from the medical clinic. The Chavez CDC is located off base close to Chavez housing. Both centers accept infants to children up to Kindergarten. Full-time, part-time and drop in care are available at each center.
The Family Child Care (FCC) center is another option for parents needing child care. All FCC providers register and become certified through the FCC management office on base. FCC providers watch your children from their home-based child care business. Providers accept all ages of children and can accommodate most work schedules including weekends.
The Youth Center is yet another alternative for children after school or during the summer. Youth Programs includes both the after school program and the open recreation. The after school program is a fee-based program where students can go after school. Children involved in this program have structured daily activities. Some of the events include cooking and life skills classes, day trips, crafts, contests, movie nights and much more. The open recreation program has a more flexible schedule built in to it. Youth decide what activities they want to do including watching movies, listening to music, outdoor activities, doing homework, or just hanging out with friends. Youth programs is available for children 6-17 years of age.
Anyone with base access is permitted to use any of the family services mentioned above.
